What George Lois, a real ad mad man, has to say about "Mad Men".

"It’s OK to do a show like that, but when they announced that the show was going to be about ‘the incredible period of the advertising industry in the 1960s,’ everybody thought it was going to be about me. All over the world I’m called ‘the original mad man.’ My bitch about it is the fact that it’s a show about a bunch of scum bags. All they do is screw the secretaries, drink themselves to death, smoke themselves to death and produce piss advertising. And this is happening during the Vietnam War, the Civil Rights movement and women’s liberation? All the important things going on in the world and they’ve got that piss-ass show?"
Exactly. Piss advertising. Via Paper Magazine.

Being an Ad student I thought it may have some interesting, clever and different ways of looking at Advertising. So far I am only half way through the first series.......it doesn't.

George is absolutely bang on!

This is a show made by people who have absolutely nothing to do with advertising. I thought it could be the first intelligent show out of the USA in ages.

It's just a soap. Hang your heads in shame!

it's just a show about ad men in the sixties, who cares? it's not made for ad men of today to watch it (and say wow what an interesting historical correct tv show)
it's made in order so that brands will buy airtime during the show to advertise themselves, it's made to sell as advertising guy mr lois should know that
this type of commentary shows again how much we love ourselves

Madmen is about how people used to manage their drinking problems at work, don't try and read any further into it.

Among other things, Mad Men is part Death of a Salesman, part John Cheever, part shock jokes, and part soap opera.

Mr. Lois has every right to feel disappointed.

Me? I'm a big fan.

But then again, I don't know that I've ever watched it sober.
